NO JAYWALKING Philippine Style

The only news I have about the Philippines is from what I read online and from emails from my friends. I recently received an email which tackled Jaywalking signs allegedly being implemented. Now if this is true, I do not know. You be the judge. But knowing my countrymen, sometimes, one has to be creative to get the point across.

Here is the email:

According to an MMDA report, the number of accidents along the streets of Metro Manila due to improper use of the road more particularly Jaywalking are steadily increasing.

In a phone in interview, MMDA chairman Bayani Fernando commented; "Accidents in our major roads is a major issue. The number of deaths truly raises a concern." he began to speak in Filipino; "that this "kawalan ng urbanidad" (lack of proper behavior in the city) must be addressed in order to protect the public from themselves." Adding to this, the chairman presented a strategy in addressing the problem. He adds; "we have to align our messages to the public with common vernacular."

So if this is a joke, it is a good one. But it is a sad testament to the breakdown in discipline.
